01-1770 – Portolá returns to San Diego. The new colony is in desperate straits and may have to be abandoned.

03-19-1770 – The San Antonio returns to San Diego with mission supplies and the struggling new colony is saved.

06-03-1770 – Mission San Carlos Borromeo (known in the mission era as San Carlos Borromeo de Monterey) is founded. A provisional pole-and-thatch chapel is erected within the presidio walls.

06-03-1770 – Presidio of Monterey is established.
