San Carlos Enter San Francisco Bay

08-30-1775 – The San Carlos is the first ship to enter San Francisco Bay. Captain Juan de Ayala names Angel Island (Isla de los Ángeles) and Alcatraz (Isla de los Alcatraces – Pelicans in Spanish).

11-04-1775 – Over 800 Indians from 15 villages attack and burn the newly relocated San Diego de Acalá Mission killing the Mission Priest Fr. Luis Jayme, the mission carpenter Urselino, and José Romero the mission blacksmith.

1775 – At the end of the year missions are not yet self-sufficient. There are only about 800 neophytes at the first five missions by the end of the year.
